This site serves as the repository for the on-going work of the Handbook, including the as-built architecture of a variety of software-intensive systems. Much of this site is hidden from public view (and even from registered users) until such time these artifacts are vetted by the developers of each such system.

The site is divided into six major sections, each accessible through the navigation bar: The blog provides a random commentary on things that interest me plus a diary of each archeological dig. The second section offers a general presentation on software architecture: what it is, what it is not, why it is relevant, and how to specify, visualize, document, govern, and evolve a system's significant design decisions. The third section is the center of this work, presenting the as-built architecture of a variety of software-intensive systems selected from across the industry and across the world. The fourth section presents a gallery of software architecture. The fifth section provides a catalog of the major patterns found in the literature as well as those harvested from the systems under study. The final section offers a comprehensive collection of references including books, papers, people, and sites relevant to software architecture, together with a glossary.

By registering and then logging in to this site, you will be given access to the publicly-released content of the Handbook. You may also be granted access to other secure parts of the Handbook (including the manuscript itself) if you have been asked to contribute or review content.
